‘Vought Rising’ will deliver a gritty take on the 1950s while preserving The Boys’ DNA
The upcoming spin-off reunites Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash in a darker, noir take on the superhero universe’s past.

‘The Boys’ has ended, but there’s still plenty more to come from this universe. Even though ‘Gen V’ was canceled, another spin-off is on the way: ‘Vought Rising.’ And with that, preparations are already underway for this new series, which will serve as a prequel set in 1950.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Eric Kripke, showrunner of ‘The Boys’, spoke about this new series and how it stays true to its roots, albeit with a grittier tone. “It’s definitely got some Boys’ DNA in that it’s irreverent and graphic. But it has this sort of lovely, almost noir-like murder mystery—not Black Noir but actual noir. There are detectives and plot twists, and there’s a murder that then leads to a larger conspiracy.”
“We’re also trying to do a very gritty version of the ’50s,” continued Kripke. “Most people’s feeling or sense memory of the ’50s is from movies, which are very sanitized. Even L.A. Confidential, as much as I love it, is visually a pretty clean movie. We wanted dirty and grimy. There would be heroin dens and gay bars and this underbelly of popular culture at the time. So to explore all that is a blast, as well.”
The legacy of ‘The Boys’ will continue, set in the past
