When were the last GTA games released? Dates chosen by Rockstar
Grand Theft Auto VI’s release window is closing and we already have an idea of the months it will arrive, but what about the other releases?
Yesterday afternoon, the Grand Theft Auto community got some relief. During Take-Two’s latest financial report, it was revealed that the next title in the franchise, GTA VI, will arrive in the fall of 2025, shortening the wait from a full year to a quarter. Of course, the last two major Rockstar Games productions have arrived during this quarter (after a short delay, of course).
This time, we take a look at the release dates that the Grand Theft Auto franchise has had over the years to see if there is a release date that matches the window given for GTA VI.
Release dates for all GTA titles

Handheld Games
As we can see, the vast majority of the franchise’s titles have fallen in this fall period, except for two titles, Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. It is worth mentioning that in this generation, it seemed that Rockstar preferred the “Spring” period for its releases, as another of the studio’s big titles of that generation, Red Dead Redemption, was released on May 18, 2010, something that changed for its sequel (and next-gen) released on October 26, 2018.
With this in mind, we can clearly see that Rockstar is generally banking on the strong pre-Thanksgiving period to ensure sales before the holiday season. We can expect that Grand Theft Auto VI would be released during the month of October. As always, we will have to wait for an official date from Rockstar Games, (showing the expected cover) and of course that none of the rumors about its delay become reality.
