Xbox has revealed that a PS5 Slim will be released this year

If the trial for the purchase of Activision Blizzard has provided anything, it’sjuicy information about the different players that make up the industry. Sony, the main opponent to the acquisition operation, has been one of the leading companies in the video game market for decades, so it’s also had numerous kinds of information related to their products and processes come to light. In fact, in a document submitted by Microsoft to the courts, they claim that the Japanese company is working on a Slim model of the PS5.

In page 45, Microsoft explains the differences between the different models of its consoles, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. They point out that the cheapest version has more modest hardware than Series X and PS5. They compare by mentioning that Sony has models with and without a disc reader, but that their intention is to market a new Slim version at some point of this very year:

“PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition at $399.99 and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point.”

Project Q, a portable console to play PS5 games through the cloud

PlayStation, for its part, has not confirmed this information. In fact, to this day, the only new hardware announced by them is Project Q, a machine that was revealed during their last Showcase. It is a portable console designed for cloud gaming, so it is not a PS Vita, but a product that can only play streaming games simultaneously using a PS5.

The trial for the Activision Blizzard case is now done with evidence, and is preparing to present its results. The FTC has tried to block the purchase, a stance Microsoft has fought tooth and nail against. Meanwhile, most countries have approved of it except for the United Kingdom, with the country’s CMA raising their concerns due to the cloud gaming business.
