Xbox insiders are getting their consoles reset to factory settings by new update

Xbox Insiders beware! There is a bug in a new console update that is causing some participants from the Insider program to get their console sort of reset to factory settings. While it’s cool to get the content early, there’s always a risk of getting some bugs in, like it’s happening now.

As reported by VGC, users signed up to the Aplha and Alpha Skip-Ahead tiers of the insider program are getting this bug, as they are a part of it and other users are reporting this issue as well.

The bug makes the console start up as if it’s brand new and the users have to configure almost everything again, sign in, settings, wallpaper. The good news are that the installed games remain in the console, so at least they don’t have to spend some good time downloading everything again.

This was caused by an update that was optional on Wednesday, but became mandatory this Thursday. While this is not damaging anyone, it can certainly be annoying, especially for consoles with multiple profiles.

“A fix is rolling out”, says Xbox

After a while, one of the company’s staff members responded on Reddit: “Hey all, thanks so much for all the reports! There was a service issue that impacted both system updates as well as game and app updates, and we have a fix rolling out now. We have early reports of success (my console updated now), so if you haven’t tried updating again recently, please do so. Also, we had one person report that if you’re trying to set up your console via the mobile app, you may need to try manually instead.”
