Blue Jays acquire Orioles pitcher amid MLB series against Baltimore
The Dominican pitcher will bolster the Canadian organization's bullpen with the goal of remaining the best team in the AL.
The Toronto Blue Jays may be the top team in the American League, but they’re not standing pat. With the stretch run of the 2025 MLB season approaching, the Canadian club made a key bullpen addition by acquiring right-hander Seranthony Domínguez from the Baltimore Orioles.
The twist? The deal went down in the middle of a doubleheader between the two teams at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
What are Domínguez’s Orioles stats in 2025?
Domínguez, a Dominican native, made 43 appearances for Baltimore this season, posting a 3.24 ERA over 41.2 innings. He allowed 15 earned runs, struck out 54 batters, gave up just 32 hits and recorded a 2-3 record with two saves.
He joins a Toronto bullpen that’s been hit hard by injuries, with Yimi García, Nick Sandlin and Ryan Burr all sidelined. That’s left the Jays relying on a patchwork relief corps featuring Chad Green, Brendon Little, Yariel Rodríguez, Teoscar Nance, Paxton Schultz, Braydon Fisher and Mason Fluharty. Jeff Hoffman remains the team’s closer.
Watts-Brown heads to Maryland
To land Domínguez, Toronto sent pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown to Baltimore. Ranked as the Blue Jays’ No. 10 prospect by MLB Pipeline, the 23-year-old has spent the past two seasons climbing the organizational ladder, pitching at Single-A, High-A and Double-A. The Orioles now rank him as their No. 8 prospect.
Domínguez’s contract situation
The Blue Jays are acquiring Domínguez as a rental for the remainder of the 2025 season. He’s set to become a free agent at the end of the year. His salary for the season was set at $8 million, which will now be split proportionally between Baltimore and Toronto.
