Dodgers survive Brewers’ late scare in NLCS opener
Los Angeles opened the series with clutch pitching and late drama at American Family Field.
The Los Angeles Dodgers won Game 1 of the National League Championship Series, edging the Milwaukee Brewers 2–1 at American Family Field. The California side scored through a solo home run and a bases-loaded walk, while Milwaukee managed just a sacrifice fly in the ninth that left the visitors sweating until the final out.
Five innings of dominance end with a home run
Freddie Freeman gave the few Dodgers fans in Milwaukee something to cheer about, launching a solo homer in the top of the fifth to break the deadlock. Blake Snell delivered a masterful start, pitching eight full innings, striking out ten, and not allowing a single run. His commanding performance earned him his third postseason win.
Brewers rally but fall short in the ninth
The Brewers made things interesting late. After the Dodgers extended their lead to 2–0 on a bases-loaded walk, Los Angeles brought in Roki Sasaki to relieve Snell. The Japanese pitcher issued a walk to Isaac Collins after getting Caleb Durbin to pop out, and pinch-hitter Jake Bauers followed with a double. Jackson Chourio drove in Milwaukee’s first run with a sacrifice fly.
Manager Dave Roberts then replaced Sasaki with Blake Treinen, who struggled at first, walking Christian Yelich and William Contreras to load the bases. But Treinen held his nerve and struck out Brice Turang for the 27th out, sealing a nerve-racking victory for the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS.
