Update:

MLB has made the strange decision to honor Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani with his own day, broadcasting an entire schedule of his best moments on MLB network.

While he is undoubtedly a huge star in MLB, the impartial organisation that governs the sport in the US has come under fire from fans who are confused as to why Ohtani is being placed head and shoulders above everyone else in the league who works just as hard.

And the fans of the sport are not happy. “Disgraceful”, wrote one social media user; “RIDICULOUS” wrote another; “Oh god they’re already glazing him“, posted a third while another said ”This is why I’m getting into the NFL." A particular Shawn Michaels GIF was also used in one post - I’ll let you find that one.

As for Shohei Day itself, Two of Ohtani’s signature games will be aired: his performance in Miami that created the 50-50 club on Sept. 19, 2024, and his two-way game against the Brewers in Game 4 of the NL Championship Series on Oct. 17, 2025.

In the 2025 MLB season, Shohei Ohtani put up historically elite numbers at the plate for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Over 158 games, he hit .282 with 172 hits, launched 55 home runs, drove in 102 runs, scored 146 times and stole 20 bases, all while posting a .392 on-base percentage and .622 slugging percentage for a 1.014 OPS.

His performance earned him his fourth Most Valuable Player award and a shopping list of other honours as he helped lead the Dodgers to a second straight World Series title.
