Update:

Baseball is experiencing a major resurgence in the United States, if viewership numbers and TV ratings for the 2025 MLB postseason are anything to go by.

Viewership reaches 15-year high

Since the start of the playoffs, an average of 4.33 million people have tuned in to watch the action, according to the MLB and Nielsen. That figure covers all four Division Series across the American League and National League, as well as the opening games of the respective Championship Series.

Not since 2010 has the MLB postseason drawn such a large audience, and this year’s numbers mark a 30% increase compared to just 12 months ago.

Mariners-Tigers thriller tops ratings

The Game 5 ALDS decider between the Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers drew 8.72 million viewers on Fox, making it the most-watched Division Series game since the Tigers faced the New York Yankees in 2011.

Across both American League Division Series, the average audience was 4.15 million viewers, the highest for the round since 2015, when the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.

Blue Jays-Yankees delivers biggest audience

The Toronto Blue Jays’ stunning ALDS victory over the Yankees was the most-watched individual series, averaging 7.65 million viewers across the United States and Canada.

Momentum continues into championship round

The trend shows no sign of slowing. Fox’s broadcast of Game 1 of the American League Championship Series between the Mariners and Blue Jays averaged 10.02 million viewers across the U.S. and Canada, a remarkable 32% increase from last year’s opening ALCS game between the Cleveland Guardians and the Yankees on TBS.
