How many times has Yordan Alvarez hit three home runs in one game?
The Cuban baseball player hit three home runs in the Houston Astros’ victory against the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Houston Astros (71-62) avoided being swept in the series against the Philadelphia Phillies (78-55) thanks to the excellent performance of Yordan Álvarez. The Cuban player hit three home runs and was responsible for producing four of the 10 runs with which the Texas team blanked the Philadelphia team.
This was the third time that the Las Tunas native had recorded three HRs in a Major League game. The other two were against the Baltimore Orioles on August 10, 2019, and against the Oakland Athletics on September 16, 2022.
Álvarez's first homer came in the fourth inning to cap a five-run inning. The Astros designated hitter found Taijuan Walker's pitch and drove the ball into left field at Citizens Bank Park.
The second homer was a solo shot in the seventh inning. Alvarez found the fourth pitch from reliever Michael Mercado and sent the ball out of the park over center field.
His third homer of the night came after Chas McCormick hit one of his own in the eighth inning. Mercado's relief effort ended when Alvarez followed up with another solo shot.
Spencer Arrighetti came close to a no-hitter
The Astros and starter Spencer Arrighetti were looking to win the no-hitter, but the effort ended in the eighth inning when Austin Hays grounded out. The Houston starter left the mound after Trea Turner singled.
Despite this, Arrighetti went to the dugout with 11 strikeouts. The Cinco Ranch High School graduate achieved personal bests with four walks, 103 pitches, and 7.2 innings pitched.
Arrighetti has recorded his third game with double-digit strikeouts this month.
Joe Espada sent in Bryan King to close the game, and he did not disappoint, hanging up the ring in the eighth and ninth.
