Is Tyler Glasnow’s season with the Dodgers finished?

Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts confirmed the worst news possible: the starting pitcher will probably not pitch again this season for the LA team.

The Los Angeles Dodgers hold a 3.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres and aim to clinch first place in the National League West Division as they prepare for the 2024 Major League Baseball postseason. The Dodgers will conclude their series in Miami against the Marlins tomorrow.

Sadly, this will be the fifth game without one of their top pitchers, Tyler Glasnow, who has been absent for these games.

The right-hander cleaned out his locker Sunday and is unlikely to play again this season because of a sprained right elbow. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed it was a devastating blow to the team’s World Series hopes because he was first in the pitching rotation ahead of Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Problems in the pitching rotation

It’s a big blow,” Roberts said. “Looking at what he’s meant to our team, what he’s done for us, what we expected of him — it’s certainly going to take a toll. But we have to move forward, and we will. We have a lot of capable people. I feel bad for Tyler because he did everything to stay healthy and return, but it just wasn’t going to happen.

Tyler Glasnow was on track to be the top pitcher in the Dodgers’ rotation in October, the month the postseason begins, but his injury will keep him out of the mix until the 2025 season.

The 31-year-old has been out of the game since Aug. 11 due to tendinitis in his right elbow. He was unable to throw more than 25 pitches in a simulated game last week, forcing the team to make the drastic decision.

The Dodgers will have to rely on improved production from Bobby Miller and Walker Buehler down the stretch of the regular season and are hoping for the return of Gavin Stone. Glasnow’s absence also opens the door for rookie Landon Knack to be included in the starting rotation in the postseason in October.
