Minor League ‘Field of Dreams’ game: What time and how to watch TV and online
The Field of Dreams game is coming back after a fantastic reception in its inaugural year in 2021. This year features a minor league game as the appetizer.
The iconic phrase from the movie Field of Dreams is not just a fairytale sports story anymore. It has become a reality after last year’s game between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox was played in Dyersville, Iowa.
Ray Kinsella wil not be present
Major League Baseball and and the minor leagues will carry on what looks to be a long standing tradition for the future this week when. The enchanting field walled off by cornstalks in the outfield will hold a couple of games this week in what will make for another memorable week from the Field of Dreams.
The idea was adapted by the Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta film Field of Dreams based on a struggling corn farmer, Ray Kinsella, in Iowa who hears spirits in his fields encouraging him to build a baseball field. The field is built and eventually ghosts of baseball past start to emerge from the corn stalks. Shoeless Joe Jackson and a the legendary Chicago Black Sox of 1919 appear and play attracting a crowd and Ray gets to keep his farm.
Reds and the Cubs squaring off on Thursday
In the days leading up to the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds who will squaring up on August 11, we will have some minor league ball as an appetizer as two High-A Midwest League sides battling on the sacred baseball diamond.
The minor league game will feature two local teams, that should draw a nice crownd around the ground in Iowa. The Quad Cities River Bandits, a Kansas City Royals affiliate, will host the Cedar Rapids Kernels, who are a feeder team to the Minnesota Twins.
As only fitting, last year’s Field of Dreams game between two legendary clubs went down to the wire and was won by a walk off home run by the White Sox’s Tim Anderson in a story book ending to one of the games of last season.
Reynolds to commentate former team
Harold Reynolds of MLB Network will cover the the Bandits and Kernels game, and spoke about how excited he is to be announcing this game, at a field like this with a team that he is quite familiar with.
“This is a real exciting time … any time you get a chance to showcase the different things we do in our sport, this stands up there as a shining light,” Reynolds said. “This year we’re taking it another step further by bringing a Minor League game in there. I played in Quad Cities and I played in Cedar Rapids [as a Minor Leaguer], so it’s pretty cool for me to get a chance to call their game.”
