George Herman Ruth, better known as ‘Babe Ruth’ is one of the greatest baseball players to have played in the Major Leagues and any artifacts that are worthy of being rescued such as bats, gloves and jerseys will fetch a pretty penny.

One of the bats used by the New York Yankees legend was auctioned for 1.3 million dollars by the auction house Robert Edward Auctions. There were a total of 78 offers for the bat and the bidding started at $100,000. According to the company, this wood was made by Hillerich & Bradsby and was used by the player during an exhibition game in October 1923.

The bat weighs 41.9 ounces (1.18 kg) and is 36 inches (91.44 cm) long. Although the wood manufacturer did not create a model, the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA/DNA) was able to verify that all details correspond to those made by Hillerich & Bradsby.

The most expensive auction for a Babe Ruth bat

Although it may seem incredible, this is not the ‘Great Bambino’s’ most expensive piece of memorabilia. Hunt Auctions sold a bat used by the baseball player between 1920 and 1921 for 1.85 million dollars at a private auction. PSA/DNA Photo Authentication Services gave the bat a perfect score of 10.

Ruth’s bat model is a Hillerich & Bradsby weighing 44.6 ounces (1.26 KG). Most Major League hitters these days hover around 32 ounces (0.9 KG).
