Estados Unidos Update:

Pete Alonso, the New York Mets’ first baseman, may be looking to cut ties with the franchise once the MLB offseason begins. The player himself hinted at the possibility after the team was eliminated from this year’s playoffs.

What has Pete Alonso said after Mets exit?

“Playing for this organization, this city … they’ve continued to believe in me. I love playing here. There are great people in this clubhouse, great people on the staff. Every day has been a pleasure to come to work and put on the orange and blue uniform.

“I’ve appreciated it so much and been immensely grateful every day. Nothing is guaranteed, but we’ll see what happens. I’ve loved being a Met. I hope they’ve appreciated me too,” Alonso said.

What is Alonso’s guaranteed salary?

Alonso has spent his entire career with the Mets. If he were to leave Queens, he would be walking away from a guaranteed $24 million salary in 2026. The slugger tested free agency last offseason before agreeing to a two-year, $54 million deal with the Mets, which included a player option through 2026.

This year, Alonso played all 162 games, hitting .272/.347/.524 with 38 home runs and 126 RBIs in 624 plate appearances.
