Pirates star suspended for “inappropriate” gesture towards fans
Tommy Pham of the Pittsburgh Pirates looks set to miss one game but has lodged an appeal.

The Pittsburgh Pirates could be without outfielder Tommy Pham after he was hit with a one-game suspension for “inappropriate actions towards fans” against the Los Angeles Angels earlier this week.
Pham was set to serve the ban against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday but has launched an appeal, placing a temporary pause on the punishment. The suspension will be on hold until that process has been completed.
The 37-year-old was caught on camera making a gesture to fans at Angel Stadium on Wednesday evening, apparently responding to a supporter that placed on glove on Pham while he attempted to make a play near the stands.

ESPN report that the fan was moved to a different section of the stadium but Pham will not be excused his part in the incident. The Angels crowd booed Pham for the rest of the game but it didn’t stop the Pirates cruising to a 3-0 win.
MLB’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, Michael Hill, confirmed the initial one-game suspension and undisclosed fine. If Pham loses the appeal, he will be forced to serve the suspension and pay the fine.
