Rangers - Tigers: Lineups and starting pitchers for today’s MLB game, April 17
With the series split at a game apiece, the Texas Rangers try to solidify their grip on the AL West while the Detroit Tigers chase in the AL Central.
The Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers will square off in the third game of this meeting. With the four-game series in Detroit split at a game apiece, both have a lot to gain with a win today.
The Rangers dropped back to .500 with yesterday’s loss and although they are out in front in the AL West, they are only a half a game in front of the Angels and one game in front of the Mariners. A win today would put them back in solid control of the division.
The Tigers are chasing the Guardians in the AL Central, sitting just two games out of first and one game behind the Kansas City Royals. A win today would help them close the gap on the top of the division and put some distance between them and the Twins and White Sox at the bottom of the table.
Rangers - Tigers starting pitchers
Texas will go with Dane Dunning, as solid a starter as you can find in baseball. The 29-year-old right hander is 2-1 so far, with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP over 18.0 innings pitched. Dunning has notched up 17 strikeouts in his first three outings, and has lasted an average of six innings per start, helping that beat up Rangers bullpen out by chewing through the innings.
Detroit will call upon 27-year-old southpaw Tarik Skubal in what will be his third outing this season. Skubal has been outstanding, going 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA, striking out 20 in 17.1 innings pitched and posting an insane 0.75 WHIP. Skubal has notched up seven or more strikeouts in five of his last six home appearances, being a huge part of the Tigers pitching dominance. Detroit are top in MLB for opponent batting average (.201) and hits allowed with just 116.
