The Venezuelan baseball player, Ronald Acuña Jr, came off a stellar campaign in Major League Baseball with the Atlanta Braves. The right fielder sealed his best MLB season, averaging a batting line of .337/.416/.596, with 41 home runs, 217 hits, 35 doubles, 106 RBIs, a 1.012 OPS, and accumulated 73 stolen bases.
These impressive statistics earned him the National League MVP award through unanimous voting.
The reason why Acuña Jr decided to play in the LVBP
After concluding his season in the Major Leagues, however, he decided to continue his involvement in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League with the La Guaira Sharks. In his initial games, he has stirred considerable excitement among fans, having already hit two home runs.
“I am playing in Venezuela because there are many people who cannot come to see me in the United States. Additionally, last year I played here, and it greatly contributed to having a successful season in the Major Leagues,” disclosed Acuña Jr regarding his decision to play in Venezuela.
The player has expressed his desire to continue with the La Guaira Sharks for the remainder of the season, and he even envisions the possibility of competing in the 2024 Caribbean Series.
