Schwarber homer sparks U.S. rout over Team GB in WBC
Great Britain stunned early with a first-pitch homer, but the United States’ stacked lineup eventually erupted in Houston.

The United States’ star-studded roster delivered once again in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, overcoming an early scare to defeat Great Britain 9–1 in its second game of the tournament.
The British side could hardly have imagined a better start. Facing reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal in his first outing of the tournament, Nate Eaton launched the very first pitch of the game over the fence for a home run, handing Great Britain an immediate lead and silencing the American crowd.
For several innings, the European squad managed to keep the powerful U.S. lineup in check. Led by Jazz Chisholm Jr., who endured a rough night at the plate with four strikeouts in four at-bats, Great Britain kept the game tight while their pitching staff worked through the early frames.
Everything changed in the fifth inning.

Kyle Schwarber ignites the U.S. rally with towering three-run blast
With Ernie Clement and Pete Crow-Armstrong on base, Kyle Schwarber sent a towering home run deep into the stands, flipping the scoreboard to 3–1 and igniting the American offense.
The rally continued moments later when Gunnar Henderson delivered a single – aided by a defensive error – that allowed Alex Bregman and Bryce Harper to cross the plate, stretching the advantage to four runs.
From that point on, the contest turned into a one-sided affair.
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!

United States pulls away as Britain’s bullpen runs out of answers
Three more runs in the sixth inning and another in the seventh put the result beyond doubt. Neither the British bats nor the bullpen could find a way back as the United States cruised through the final innings to seal the 9–1 victory.
With the win, the United States heads into its rest day sitting atop Group B, while Great Britain now stands on the brink of elimination.
The next challenge for the Americans arrives Monday in what is expected to be the most anticipated matchup of the group – a clash with Mexico. The game could decide the group leader, provided Benjamin Gil’s team defeats Brazil on Sunday and arrives level in the standings.
