The American League wins the 2022 MLB All-Star Game
The AL used some fantastic pitching to win their ninth consecutive All-Star game on Tuesday night. After a four-hit, two run first they allowed just one hit.
The National League took the the honors in the 92nd edition of the All-Star Game from Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles.
NL starts hot in first
Aaron Judge and Ron Acuna Jr. were the top voter getters, representing the American and National League once the balloting was complete. Hometown hero Clayton Kershaw was started the Mid Summer Classic on the mound in the stadium he calls home, while Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan started for the AL.
McClanahan’s All-Star debut did not quite go as planned. The Devil Rays lefty gave up a lead off hit to Acuna Jr. who had the opening run of the game when Mookie Betts had an RBI single to get the NL on the board.
Paul Goldschmidt doubled the lead for the NL just a couple batters later with a solo shot to take a 2-0 advantage after the bottom of the first.
Back-to-back jacks for AL in the top of the fourth
Clayton Kershaw and the rest of the National League’s rotation kept the AL quiet through the first three innings, but Kershaw’s teammate Tony Gonsolin’s afternoon got off to a shaky start when he gave up a two run homer to Giancarlo Stanton in the top of the fourth. Byron Buxton made it back-to-back shots against Gonsolin as the AL took the lead for the first time.
NL’s bats shut off after the first
After a fantastic four-hit, two run start to the game the AL pitching tightened up and didn’t allow a hit until the bottom of the eighth when Austin Riley singled, but the inning ended with Riley on first. In the bottom of the ninth, Cleveland Guardian’s pitcher Emmanuel Clase stuck out the side to earn the American League their ninth consecutive All-Star Game win.
