The first losses for the New York Yankees after failing in the 2025 MLB postseason

The New York Yankees were knocked out by the Toronto Blue Jays (3–1) in the American League Division Series, enduring a brutal stretch in which they allowed 34 runs across four games while scoring just 19. Toronto also dominated in home runs, 9–4, underscoring the gap between the two teams.

Aaron Judge shone individually but couldn’t turn the tide. The Yankees’ captain led New York’s offense throughout the postseason, hitting .500 with seven RBIs in seven playoff games. Against Toronto, he was even more impressive – a .600 average with one home run, six RBIs, four walks and a staggering 1.617 OPS – yet it wasn’t enough to keep the team alive.

Looking ahead, the “Bronx Bombers” will have to regroup and retool in search of a fresh start and some long-awaited joy for their fans next season. Among the players hitting free agency are:

• Center fielder: Trent Grisham
• Third baseman: Amed Rosario
• Right fielder: Austin Slater
• Pitcher: Luke Weaver
• Pitcher: Devin Williams
• Left-handed pitcher: Ryan Yarbrough

In addition, left fielder Cody Bellinger is expected to opt out of his current deal and seek a new contract – possibly to stay in pinstripes, but that remains uncertain.
