What are the biggest contracts in MLB history?
As Juan Soto signs a mammoth multi-million-dollar contract with the New York Mets in the MLB, comparisons are made with those who came before.
The Dominican outfielder Juan Soto and the New York Mets have reached an agreement, signing a record-breaking $765 million contract for 15 seasons – a figure without precedent in Major League Baseball.
Soto posted impressive statistics during the regular season with the Yankees, maintaining a batting average of .288/.419/.569, hitting 41 home runs, driving in 109 runs, and scoring 128 runs. He also showcased his talent during the postseason, recording an OPS of 1.160, hitting four home runs, and achieving a batting line of .429/.556/.857.
Ohtani’s million-dollar contract
Shohei Ohtani signed a historic deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December 2023, worth $700 million over 10 years. However, that figure has now been eclipsed by Soto’s unprecedented $765 million deal, although that is spread over 15 years so the Japanese star could still claim to be valued higher year on year.
