These are decisive hours in Major League Baseball. Teams are risking their lives to secure their ticket to the postseason. The top qualifiers and the teams that won their divisions have already begun to be defined.

For now, only five franchises have a guaranteed spot in the fight to win the coveted Commissioner’s Trophy: the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians in the American League, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League.

The playoffs begin on Tuesday, October 1, with the Wild Card Series or Wild Card Round. The Los Angeles Dodgers remain in first place with a record of 93-63,with six games remaining to finish the regular season.

What do the Dodgers need to be National League West Division champions?

The Dodgers will have a three-game homestand at Dodger Stadium: They faced and lost against the San Diego Padres, and the next thing is the second three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

The series against the Padres will be decisive, as they are their divisional rival; the ‘friars’ are below the Dodgers with a record of 90-66. They already lost the first game of the series against the Padres, but:

  • The magic number to secure the NL West title is four wins.

With one week to go, the Dodgers (93-63) have a one-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies (92-64) for the No. 1 seed in the National League; they can claim home-field advantage in the playoffs and a direct pass to the Division Series.
