Alex Bregman is a bona fide superstar at third base. But 2024 is a difficult year for him. He is in poor form and the Astros are languishing in the middle of the table in the AL West. To cap it all, this is a contract year for the two-time All Star.

It is no secret that the Astros will be looking to trade him this year. And there are several teams who could use the help at that hot corner as well as in their batting order. Here are a few of the likeliest suitors for Bregman’s services.

AL West rivals the Seattle Mariners are at the top of the division and with their push for the World Series stymied the last two seasons at the final hurdle, they would be a strong candidate for a trade deal. After getting rid of Eugenio Suarez, the Mariners have struggled at third base and Bregman could slot in almost seamlessly.

The Toronto Blue Jays are another perennial bridesmaid who have struggled at third base and would welcome another big bat to join Bo Bichette and Vlad Guerrero Jr in that infield. The Jays have Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Justin Turner on their books but neither is as natural at third as Bregman.

Cross division rivals the New York Yankees could also snap him up. While Oswaldo Cabrera is looking solid at third base for them at the moment, long term the Yankees would be a good investment with DJ LeMahieu still out for the foreseeable future.

The biggest market for the Astros may turn out to be the Milwaukee Brewers, who are struggling perhaps more than any other team at third base. They are not normally a trade-deadline contender but with their razor thin lead at the top of the NL Central intact, they could be induced to beef up their offense and stiffen that corner at the same time.
