Who won the World Series game last night? Rangers vs Diamondbacks Game 3
Following their Game 3 win, the Rangers continue to show that they are a serious force to be reckoned with when playing away from home.
History continues to be made by the Texas Rangers who took a 2-1 lead in the 2023 World Series, while recording their ninth consecutive postseason road win - an MLB record.
How did the Texas Rangers win Game 3?
With a final score of 3-1, Monday night’s Game 3 of the 2023 MLB World Series wasn’t the most high-scoring affair. Indeed, the Rangers essentially did all of their offensive production in the third inning against D-backs pitcher Brandon Pfaadt. It was star free agents Marcus Semien and Corey Seager who got an RBI single and a two-run home run blast respectively. Yet, it’s got to be said that while the team will be happy with the win and the maintenance of their more than impressive road record, there were some prices to pay.
Firstly, there was Rangers starting pitcher Max Scherzer who could only manage three innings before he left the game with back tightness. Then, there was ALCS MVP Adolis García who left in the seventh inning with what appeared to be left-side tightness. It goes without saying that neither of those cases is a good sign ahead of a critical Game 4. With that said, the Rangers will be able to take comfort in the way in which the bullpen responded to those absences. Jon Gray, for example, contributed three no-hit innings in relief of Scherzer, while Josh Sborz and Aroldis Chapman were both solid before José Leclerc finished the job.
What went wrong for the D-backs?
Quite frankly, the Diamondbacks struggled all night on offense. Not only did they fail to string together hits, but when they did, they couldn’t actually do anything with runners in scoring position. It’s interesting to note that the team actually out-hit the Rangers, but in truth, didn’t really put any pressure on the Rangers’ pitching lineup. Needless to say, there will need to be corrections ahead of Game 4.
