Why are they booing the American national anthem at Game 1 of the 2025 World Series in Toronto?

This isn’t just baseball, this is war. It’s very reminiscent of the 4 Nations Face-Off back in February when Canadian fans booed the American National Anthem. What’s the deal? We used to be friends, eh? Well, just like in February on the ice, today in Toronto the Canadian baseball fans are showing their hostility towards Donald Trump.

Tensions are reaching an all time high between the two countries that have been allies for centuries and President Trump is at the heart of the conflict. Once sworn in for a second term, he wasted no time taking aim at a few countries that he wanted to place tariffs on, and Canada was one of those countries. That didn’t make the Canadians too happy, and since then have been voicing their displeasure during the National Anthems played before NHL, and NBA games. One thing is for sure, the Dodgers are hoping Trump doesn’t go to a game or wish them luck because the Trump curse is a thing, just ask the Yankees.

Let’s not forget either that Trump has referred to Canada as the 51st state on numerous occasions. More recently, Trump has called off all commerce talks between the two countries because he was offended about an ad that was being played on Canadian TV that was a voice over of Ronald Reagan’s anti-tariff speech. So, it goes without saying, the Canadians want to win this World Series to prove something to their southern neighbors. You can’t really blame them, can you?

It’s not the first time it’s happened and it will probably continue until Trump leaves office or apologizes for insulting the entire country of Canada.

The Blue Jays have home field advantage, so the first two games of the World Series will be played in Toronto. We can expect more of the same hostile environment in game 2. Elbows up Canada, a lot of Americans are cheering for the Blue Jays tonight too.
