Yankees manager Aaron Boone doesn’t hold back on Juan Soto: “I told him he looks terrible in that uniform”

Boone had a warm reunion with his former star player, and ensured he threw some shade over the slugger’s new suit.

Update:

Juan Soto may have changed teams, but his bond with his former Yankees manager Aaron Boone is still intact – even if Boone doesn’t approve of his new look.

New York reunited: Boone and Soto

Ahead of Monday’s spring training matchup between the Yankees and Mets in Port St. Lucie, Soto caught up with some familiar faces from his 2024 season in the Bronx, including Boone. The two exchanged hugs before and after a brief conversation during batting practice, where Boone couldn’t resist throwing a little shade at his former star outfielder.

“I told him, ‘You look terrible in that uniform,‘” Boone joked to reporters with a grin. He quickly followed up with praise for Soto, calling him “a great kid” and lauding his impact in the Yankees’ clubhouse last year.

Soto spent just one season in pinstripes after arriving via trade from the Padres, but he made the most of it. He put up career-best numbers in hits (166), home runs (41), runs scored (128), and total bases (328), while also driving in 109 runs and posting a .419 on-base percentage. His MVP-level performance helped push the Yankees to their first World Series appearance in 15 years, though they ultimately fell to the Dodgers.

Swapping Bronx to Queens: Soto’s record-breaking deal

Despite the success, Soto’s time in the Bronx was short-lived. In December, he stunned the baseball world by signing a 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets - the largest deal in U.S. sports history. The move not only ended his Yankees tenure but also turned him into the newest face of the franchise’s cross-town rivals.
