2023 NBA draft results: Complete list of picks
As expected, French prodigy Victor Wembanyama was the first of 58 picks in the 2023 draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The 77th edition of the NBA Draft has come and gone, and the appetite for the 2023/24 season to begin has been officially whetted. Number one pick Victor Wembanyama – and even his sister – were amongst the headline-makers, while the Draft, held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, proved it’s impossible to completely separate twins from one another.
When does the 2023/24 NBA season start?
Unfortunately, we face a lengthy wait for the action on the court to get underway, with the regular season due to begin in October (the exact date has yet to be confirmed). When it does, though, power forward Wembanyama will be strutting his stuff for the San Antonio Spurs, who selected the 19-year-old Frenchman first, as had been expected. Named French LNB Pro A Best Young Player two years in a row, Wembanyama is about to officially become the tallest player in the NBA, and that can only help.
Alabama’s small forward Brandon Miller was next up, drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, followed by point guard Scoot Henderson, selected by the Portland Trail Blazers after two seasons with the NBA G League Ignite.
Thompson twins round off the top five picks
The top five were rounded off by twin brothers Amen and Ausar Thompson. Granted, they won’t be playing for the same team next season, with the former drafted by the Houston Rockets and the latter by the Detroit Pistons, but the pair being selected in back-to-back certainly caught everyone’s attention. You probably won’t be surprised to hear this is the first time twins have been drafted in the top five of the same NBA Draft.

The complete list of picks is as follows. For the second season running, only 58 rather than 60 picks were made due to the Chicago Bulls and the Philadelphia 76ers being denied a second-round pick because of tampering violations.
