The Los Angeles Lakers are making a late push to secure a spot in the Play-In tournament for the seventh and eighth seeds. The Purple & Gold have two key games at home this week as the NBA regular season is coming to an end and ticket prices have skyrocketed because LeBron James is on the verge of history.

Compared to the Super Bowl, one of the most watched sporting events around the world, people are more keen to see James break the NBA’s all-time points-scoring record. A get-in ticket for the game between the Eagles and the Chiefs is roughly $6,000 and Lakers fans are paying up to $92,000 in the hope of seeing James surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s historic mark.

Lakers ticket surge

The Lakers will host the Oklahoma City Thunder on 7 February at Cypto.com Arena and two days later will welcome the Milwaukee Bucks to LA. James is expected to become the NBA’s all-time leading scorer in the next two games. The Lakers ace is only 36 points away from the record and this has caused ticket prices to increase 241%, according to Vivid Seats.

That means that tickets that were $474 in October have increased to $1,614 for the Bucks game this week. James will have to have a perfect game on Tuesday night against the Thunder, based on his scoring average this season of 30.1 points - but he’s within reach of beating the record then, and that is why prices have increased for that game as well.

According to Ticketmaster and other websites, the cheapest ticket, including fees, for the Thunder game is $423.50, while for the Bucks game they are starting at $756.25. If James suffers an injury or is not able to score 36 points in the next two home games, he will try to break the record on the road against the Golden State Warriors on 11 February.
