Can the Portland Trail Blazers acquire Bam Adebayo from the Miami Heat?

The Heat star has become a major talking point in Portland but it’s going to take a whole lot to pry him from Miami’s grip after a trip to the NBA Finals.

In the wake of the blockbuster trade involving the Suns and Wizards with Chris Paul and Bradley Beal in the middle, one would have thought we were about to see a lot of movement in the market. Yet, to be fair aside from the seismic shift between Phoenix and Washington, it actually hasn’t been the case. That could be about to change, however, if rumors are to be believed.

Blazers looking at Heat’s Bam Adebayo

In a case of the old “switcheroo,” it seems the Portland Trail Blazers are now being linked with a move for Miami Heat star, Bam Adebayo, which is both significant and ironic at the same time. Significant, because it shows clear intent on the part of Portland to support franchise pillar, Damian Lillard, something that the organization has come under increasing fire for not doing sooner. Yet, on the other hand, it’s very much an ironic twist of fate when

considering that Miami has been trying to snag Lillard from the Blazers for years now.

So, Bam Adebayo is going to the Blazers?

Well, not officially no. Having just missed out on an NBA championship after they lost to the Denver Nuggets, one has to imagine that the Eastern Conference champions are fully aware that they have a solid roster. On the other hand, if we’re honest the Blazers do indeed have some enticing things to offer such as No. 3 and No. 23 overall picks, last year’s No. 7 overall pick Shaedon Sharpe, the talented and young shooting guard Anfernee Simons, and, should they be able to shed the restrictions on a pick they owe to the Bulls, there’s also the possibility of a number of future first-round picks as well. Having played together for the U.S. Olympic team, both Adebayo and Lillard are familiar with each other and where the Blazers are concerned, the Heat’s big man is exactly the kind of player they’ve been missing.

At any rate, there’s nothing carved in stone and to be clear, no offer has been made such that none have been refused. As far as any official word goes, we know that Lillard has maintained his desire to stay in Portland with the hopes of finally winning a championship. By the looks of things, the Blazers seem to be looking into players who can help them win now as opposed to later. That being said, it’s going to take some doing to convince the Heat to part with a player who was key in their run to the NBA Finals. Indeed, one could argue they wouldn’t have got there without him. Watch this space.
