Canada’s 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup roster
The Canadian National Team has a team full of NBA stars. They face Team USA for the bronze at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Canada had high hopes to make it to the final, but lost to Serbia in semifinals and will now try to beat their neighbors for third place.
Canada’s strongest side ever?
There are 10 NBA players on Jordi Fernandez’s squad heading into the World Cup led by reigning NBA Champion Jamal Murray. Murray was the most important piece, after Nikola Jokic, in the Denver Nuggets run to the Finals and now looks to lead this Canadian team to new heights.
Murray isn’t the only star on the team, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is already an All-Star and was one of the top scorers in the league last season averaging 31.4 points a game which was good enough for fourth among all scorers.
The Canadian team had their sights set on winning the World Cup, but crossed paths with a strong Serbia team. They were placed in Group H with France, Latvia and Lebanon. France and Lativa.
Great pre-World Cup run
After going 11-1 in World Cup Qualifiers, which was best of any team that made the tournament, they won three of their five exhibition games. They lost their first and last warm up match, to Germany and Dominican Republic respectively. In between that they beat New Zealand, Germany in a revenge game and defending champions Spain.
