The Cleveland Cavaliers have confirmed Ricky Rubio’s return to the franchise. The Catalan point guard, who was traded to the Indiana Pacers in February and is still recovering from the serious knee injury that will sideline him for the first few months of the season, is a trustworthy player for JB Bickerstaff and the new project in Ohio.

Rubio in as old head alongside emerging Garland

As journalist Chris Haynes of ESPN was able to confirm, Rubio has signed for the Cavaliers on a three-year, $18.4m contract. There he will mentor Darius Garland, a young talent from Cleveland who was selected for the last edition of the All-Star and is considered the future of the franchise. So much so that the Cavs gave him a six-year extension worth (at least) $193m.

Great playing partnership with Mobley and Allen

Rubio’s experience and seniority will help him gain a foothold as soon as he recovers from his injury. In addition, he is a player who has an excellent understanding with Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, the two big men who, after last season’s good season, offer cause for optimism that the Cavaliers will enjoy success. Ricky will be one of the locker room leaders.

After the injury to Collin Sexton, a key player for Bickerstaff, Rubio took control of a team that fully trusted him. Both the general manager of the franchise, Mike Gansey, and the owner, Dan Gilbert, were eager to recover the MVP of the last World Cup and make him a fundamental part of the new project that is being created in Cleveland.
