Celtics’ Jayson Tatum reacts to teammate Jaylen Brown’s historic extension but what did he say?
The Celtics star recently opened up about his teammate who turned heads by putting pen to paper on the largest extension ever offered in the NBA’s history.
In the world of professional sports, salaries can often be a point of contention between players as each one looks to make the most they can, even on the same team. Yet, that appears to be quite the opposite where the two Celtics stars are concerned.
Jayson Tatum is happy for Jaylen Brown
While some may take it as simply a PR move, there is a lot to be said about Jayson Tatum’s apparent elation about his good friend and Boston Celtics teammate, Jaylen Brown receiving the biggest contract in NBA history. Brown as you know recently signed an extension with that franchise that will see him earn $304 million over five years. To be clear, the contract makes Brown the highest-paid player in the league as it clearly eclipses the $276 million supermax deal inked by Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic in 2022.
Speaking in a recent interview, Tatum couldn’t hide how happy he is for Brown and moreover that the deal was a “no-brainer”, rather than a surprise. “Much deserved, it was a no-brainer. So I’m happy for him and his family. It’s life-changing. It’s a big deal. I’m happy we’re going to have him for however much longer we’ve got him for. I’m happy about that,” said Tatum during an exclusive interview with the Boston Globe.
Boston is building for the future
By securing Jaylen Brown’s services for the long haul, the Celtics have made it abundantly clear that both he and Tatum will be the foundation on which the team continues to build. Where the latter is concerned, we imagine that his joy is in no way exaggerated as he can now focus on his continued role as part of one of the league’s best duos. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that setting such a precedent with Brown only serves to increase the chances that Tatum himself will receive a similarly sizeable extension when the time comes. A projected figure of $338 million has been tossed around if you’re wondering. Ultimately, though the speculation is entertaining, if there’s one thing that remains a distinct possibility, it’s that by the time the next season rolls around, the Celtics’ two stars could well be the highest earners in the league.
