Clippers executive lets slip: “strongly, strongly considering” former star that would shake the NBA to its core
The Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly interested in bringing back Chris Paul.
Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank has opened up on his plans for the team next season, and it’s safe to say that fans are excited about the ambition.
‘We’re strongly, strongly considering him’
Paul is a free agent and a Clippers legend, two qualities that bode well for a potential signing. The all-time assists leader for the side, Paul is still highly regarded by his former employers.
Paul ‘obviously possesses some of the qualities we [are looking for]’
“What I’d say about Chris is he’s a great player,” Frank said when quizzed on the Clippers’ intentions of signing Paul. “He’s a great Clipper. He obviously possesses some of the qualities we [are looking for]. And, of course, we’re strongly, strongly considering him.”
Last season, with the San Antonio Spurs, Paul averaged 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists over a full 82-game campaign, playing 28.0 minutes per contest. During his six seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers (2011–17), Paul established himself as their franchise cornerstone and was a perennial All-Star. He consistently averaged around 18–19 points and roughly 10 assists per game.
So far in the offseason, the Clippers’ have added power forward John Collins and center Brook Lopez to their roster, something that, according to ESPN, creates salary cap flexibility “so they can be opportunistic in the next two summers to potentially go after stars.”
