DeMar DeRozan is leaving the Chicago Bulls after three seasons, with the 34-year-old to join the Sacramento Kings on a three-year contact.

DeRozan in three-team sign-and-trade deal

According ESPN’s NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Kings will acquire the power forward in a three-team sign-and-trade deal that will also see Harrison Barnes move to the San Antonio Spurs, while the Bulls will get shooting guard Chris Duarte, along with two second round draft picks and cash.

DeRozan’s deal with the Kings will see him earn $74 million across the three seasons.

The six-time NBA All-Star will team up with point guard De’Aaron Fox and center Domantas Sabonis as Sacramento look to improve after their defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2024 play-in tournament. DeRozan will be seen as a replacement for Barnes, while Malik Monk and Kevin Huerter are expected to fill the gap created Duarte’s departure.

In his last season with the Bulls, DeRozan played an average of 37.8 minutes per game, recording 24 points, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds.

Chicago Bulls roster changes

Allowing DeRozan to move on suggests Bulls general manager Marc Eversley believes the current roster, which includes Nikola Vucevic and Zach LaVine, doesn’t have what it takes to compete at the top end of the Eastern Conference.

With Chicago also trading Alex Caruso for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Josh Giddey, the Bulls look to be undergoing a rebuild, with Coby White and Patrick Williams set to be key figures on a new-look roster.

Small forward Matas Buzelis, who spent last season with the now-defunct NBA G League Ignite, will also join the team after being selected 11th in the 2024 NBA Draft.
