Giannis Antetokounmpo wholesome moment with sons who were in awe of Wemby
The All-Star Weekend is all over now, but it left up with a tons of memorable moments both on and off the court. One of those moments was captured pregame.
When you gather all of the best basketball players in the world in one city, at one stadium, all hanging out with each other, you are sure to get some fantastic clips that go viral on social media. That was the case with Giannis Antetokounmpo who didn’t play in the All-Star Game, but had his kids with him court side and they stole the show.
Giannis brings the fam to work
The All-Star Game can sometimes be great, and other times not so much. No matter the level of intensity or competition, the banter and the comradery you see throughout the weekend on the court and off gives you a sense of who the biggest stars in basketball are when they aren’t battling it out on the hardwood.
One of the most accessible and charismatic guys in the league is the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo. He has been a fan favorite in Milwaukee for a long time, and even though he sat out the All-Star Game with a calf strain, he didn’t miss the festivities. In fact, he was a big part of the action, and he brought his kids Liam Charles and Maverick Shai along with him to share the experience together.
The boys were infatuated with Victor Wembanyama who shared a locker room with Giannis who were both voted as starters on Team World. The Antetokounmpo kids marveled at the size of Wemby as the Frenchman came over to introduce himself and dap the boys up.
Not far from a Wemby reunion
Giannis had a wholesome moment with his kids, giving them a little bit of a life lesson while in the locker room. He told the kids, “Work hard, and you’re going to be in this locker room too. Yes, you´ll be playing against the best. Maybe you´ll be playing against Wemby.”
One of the Antetokounmpo boys answered back, “I don’t think so dad,” doubting the fact that Wemby would be around if and when they get into the league. “Yes. He’s young. In fifteen years, Wemby is still going to be in the league,” responded Giannis.
Wemby just turned 22 last month, and in just his third year in the NBA, he has become one of the brightest stars in the league. He just made his second All-Star appearance, and has been named to the All-Defensive First Team two years running. If the Antetokoumpo boys make it to the league, Wemby would be in his mid to late 30s, which is not out of the question when you look at Steph Curry and LeBron James who are still playing at an elite level at 37 and 41 respectively.
