Heat 82 vs 102 Celtics summary: stats and highlights | NBA Eastern Conference Finals
The Boston Celtics needed a win over the Miami Heat in Game 4 after dropping their opener at TD Garden on Saturday. Jayson Tatum made sure the Celtics would be going back to Miami tied at 2-2 with a 31point performance in the 102-82 win.
White fills in for Smart in Game 4
Tatum and the Celtics were a perfect 4-0 in the playoffs coming off of losses, and stretched that streak to 5 straight wins on the rebound with the Game 4 victory on Monday night.
Boston got a big response from their super star Jayson Tatum who scored just 10 points in the Game 3 loss, but it was Derrick White who got things rolling early for the Celtics. He started in place of the injured Marcus Smart and had the game’s first seven points and finished the first quarter with 10.
While White got the Celtics out of the gate on the right foot, it was the defense that helped build a big early lead that Boston would hang on to for the rest of the game. They held the Heat scoreless for the first four minutes of the game, and didn’t allow a field goal for the first eight minutes of the game.
Tatum making a habit of hot starts
After jumping out to an 18-1 run, the Tatum and the Celtics continued to build upon their lead early on. Boston extended their cushion over the Heat to 24 at halftime as Tatum went for 20+ in the first half for the third time this series.
The lead stretched all the way to 32 in the second half and the Heat starters were limited to just 18 points in Game 4, and if it wasn’t for Victor Oladipo’s 23 points.
Tatum finished the game with 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while four other Celtics posted double digits including Payton Pritchard who had 14 on the night.

We now head south for Game 5 as the Heat will host the Celtics on Wednesday night looking to bounce back from a disappointing showing at TD Garden. Tip off is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

They may have been without the Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart, but Robert Williams stepped up on a night where the Cetlics had 11 blocks.
Tatum had 24 in the first half, making it the third time this series he's gone to halftime with 20+ points.
Everything looked like it came easy for the Celtics in the Game 4 win, especially early on when they jumped out to an 18-1 lead.
Horford with the assist to Williams, and the 35 year old vet continues to prove his worth game after game. He did all the little things in the Game 4 win. He had 5 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 blocks on the night.
White filled in for the injured Marus Smart and got the party going early with the games first 7 points.

Tatum was getting treatment on that right shoulder of his during the timeout. It's obvious that he is far from 100% tonight, but without Smart he is going to have to carry even more weight on those shoulders.

Jimmy Butler will play tonight despite still feeling the effect of a swollen knee, but the Heat will be without Tyler Herro tonight. The Miami sixth man is out tonight with a groin injury.
The Celtics got a bit of good news and a bit of bad news before tonight's huge match up. Jayson Tatum will play tonight after hurting his shoulder late in the last game. Marcus Smart, however, will not play tonight as he is still suffering some swelling in that twisted ankle he suffered earlier this series.

Butler: Will he or won't he
The Heat have their own injury problems coming into tonight. Jimmy Butler sat out the second half of Game 3 due to inflammation in his right knee. He is listed as questionable coming into Game 4 and Max Strus says the Heat will be ready for whatever challenge awaits. "That's something we're going to have to get to the drawing board and figure out," guard Max Strus said of the possibility of not having Butler. "Obviously, losing a big piece like that is huge. We'll figure it out. We have a lot of guys in this locker room that are willing and able to step up and we have a great coaching staff to put us in great situations."
Tatum injury update
Tatum is expected to play tonight. He is listed as probable after suffering the injury in the fourth quarter on Saturday. "My neck got caught in a weird position," said the Boston star. "Obviously I went down and felt some pain and discomfort in my neck and down my arm, and then went to the back. I got it checked on, and started to gain some feeling back and got it checked by the doctors and ran some tests and decided to give it a go."
