The Knicks’ playoff journey began in the league’s inaugural season in 1946. They quickly established themselves as contenders, making the playoffs in the first three seasons. However, it was after the merger of the Basketball Association of America (BAA) with the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1949 that the Knicks truly hit their stride. They embarked on a remarkable streak of nine consecutive playoff appearances, showcasing their dominance during this period.

After a few decades of ups and downs, the Knicks experienced their golden era in the early 1970s. Coached by the legendary Red Holzman, the team featured stars like Willis Reed, Walt “Clyde” Frazier, and Dave DeBusschere. In 1970, the Knicks achieved their ultimate goal: they won their first NBA championship. The iconic image of Willis Reed limping onto the court during Game 7 of the Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers remains etched in basketball lore. Three years later, in 1973, the Knicks captured their second championship.

In the 21st century, the Knicks have faced challenges and setbacks. However, they’ve made significant playoff appearances, including seven trips to the conference semifinals. Notable players like Patrick Ewing, Allan Houston, and Latrell Sprewell carried the torch during this period.

Despite not reaching the Finals, the Knicks’ passionate fan base continues to rally behind them, hoping for a return to glory.
