How the Giannis injury affects his trade chances
The Bucks star is set to be out for around a month, but does that affect the possibility of a trade?

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s situation with the Milwaukee Bucks has once again become a swirling torrent of gossip around the NBA as the February 5 trade deadline launches toward us like a runaway meteorite.
Even while wading through a current injury layoff and unclear future, league executives and rival teams appear to be pushing hard to explore the possibility of acquiring the two-time MVP, a scenario that would shake up the championship picture from top to bottom if it comes to pass.
The latest twist in the tale have arrived in late January when Antetokounmpo suffered a right calf strain in a game against the Denver Nuggets. Initial medical expectations suggest he may miss four to six weeks while recovering, which realistically rules him out for the rest of the season’s trade window and complicates any immediate blockbuster negotiations.
Despite that setback, interest hasn’t waned. Marc Stein wrote that multiple NBA teams continue to sniff around the player’s locker, but the reported interest comes against a backdrop of mixed signals from within the Bucks organisation.

According to league insiders, Milwaukee has repeatedly rebuffed offers and insisted Antetokounmpo is not available for trade right now. Yet, on the other side of the ledger, some believe the front office privately acknowledges that moving Giannis could ultimately be in both sides’ best interests, given the team’s struggles to build a true contender around him; they are currently at No. 11 in the East standings with an 18-26 record.
For his part, Giannis has publicly downplayed trade chat, consistently emphasising his commitment to returning to health and helping the Bucks improve. “I’m gonna work my butt off to come back,” he said after suffering the physical issue.
Nevertheless, conversations between Antetokounmpo’s agent and the Bucks front office about his future reportedly took place last December, indicating that the possibility of a move has been on the table for some time.
