Update:

Nearly three weeks into NBA free agency, the biggest name in the sport still hasn’t made a decision, and the noise around LeBron James is only getting louder. Now, his longtime agent Rich Paul is stepping in to shut it down.

“Nobody knows nothing,” Paul said bluntly, pushing back against speculation about where James will land next.

Why LeBron’s delay is becoming a bigger deal

James opted out of his deal with the Los Angeles Lakers on June 30, immediately becoming the most influential free agent on the market, even at 41.

But unlike most offseasons, his decision hasn’t come quickly. That delay is now affecting more than just headlines. NBA teams are waiting to see where he lands before finalizing rosters. The NBA schedule remains partially unresolved. Even commissioner Adam Silver has acknowledged the situation publicly.

As the wait stretches on, frustration has started to spill over. Some critics have accused James of dragging out the process for attention, especially after he teased fans at Fanatics Fest without revealing his decision. Others argue that, at this stage of his career, the prolonged suspense feels unnecessary, even disruptive. But Paul sees it very differently.

Rich Paul’s message: This isn’t a spectacle

According to Paul, the entire narrative misses the point. He insists James is not orchestrating a media moment, but rather that he’s making a high-stakes business decision.

“Why does an athlete have to rush a choice?” Paul said, emphasizing that teams have made pitches and that every option is being evaluated carefully.

At this point in his career, James is choosing his final competitive window, his legacy chapter, and potentially, the last stop of an all-time career.

Paul has made it clear that the decision will come when LeBron is ready, and no sooner. Until then, speculation will continue to fill the gap. So the fans will continue guessing while the teams wait and the league remains in partial limbo.
