WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM INDIANA!!!
Knicks starters
Coach Tibs is going with his usual suspects at the start of Game 4. It's OG Anunoby, KAT, Bridges, Robinson and Brunson in Indy tonight. They need to come out hot tonight. They can't afford to be climbing back from a 20 point deficit.
Pacers starting five
Good news for the home team. They have their savior of Game 1 in the starting five for this pivotal game from Gainbridge Fiieldhouse. It's Nesmith, Haliburton, Nembhard, Siakam and Turner to start the night.
Injury report: Pacers
The Pacers are a little deeper than the New York Knicks, but that depth could take a hit tonight with one of the stars of Game 1 on the injury list. After hitting five late threes in the miracle in Madison Square Garden, Aaron Nesmith sprained his ankle in Game 3, and now he is listed as questionable coming into tonight’s game. He went 8/9 from three and ended the game with 30 points in Game 1, but dropped down to 12 points in Game 2 and limped off the court in Game 3 with 8 points in 26 minutes. Having no Nesmith would hurt, but the Pacers can still win this game, especially if Pascal Siakim and Haliburton come to play tonight.
Injury report: Knicks
The Knicks barely dip into their bench which means they can’t afford to get injured, and the good news is they haven’t. They come into tonight with a clean injury list, and they will need to keep it that way for the rest of the series. They play three maybe four guys off the bench, and Jalen Brunson has been battling foul trouble lately. That means they have to rely on each and every player in the 8 man rotation.
The curse of the Indy 500
It was a huge day from Indianapolis on Sunday. Not only were the Pacers playing in the Eastern Conference Finals but the most famous race in the country went down earlier that afternoon. The Pacers tipped off in a playoff game on the same day as the Indy 500 for just the fourth time in history. It must be some sort of curse, because the Pacers are 0-4 when playing on the same day as the race. It looked like they were on their way to breaking that curse, up 20 in the second half but the Knicks came roaring back to stretch that winless streak on race day to four games, but more importantly for the Knicks, keep them in this series.
Pacers: home vs. away
The Pacers have been incredible during this playoff run, but maybe the most incredible thing about this team is their ability to win away from home. They have only lost three games so far this postseason and only one of those came on the road. They are 6-1 away from Gainbridge Fieldhouse, but they are 4-2 at home. It’s strange to be better on the road than at home in the playoffs. They lost just 11 games at home all year, and went 20-20 on the road. Tonight, they know a win at home will lift them to a nearly insurmountable lead.
3-1 series history
I don’t think the Knicks need a reminder of just how important this game is tonight in Indy, but maybe you do. Going down 3-1 is basically a death sentence in the NBA Playoffs. In the history of the NBA only 13 teams have ever come back from that deficit, while 283 teams have been able to close out the series. That’s a success rate of 95.6% for the teams up 3-1. The last team to do it was the Denver Nuggets, who did it twice in the same playoff run. That happened in the bubble, but since then we haven’t seen a 3-1 comeback. The Knicks know falling tonight means the job gets nearly impossible.
Mr. Clutch gives KAT his flowers
Speaking of clutch moments Mr. Clutch gave his flowers to Karl-Anthony Towns after his huge game on Sunday night. The player who was voted the most clutch in the NBA gave a post game interview and gave it up for his teammate that joined the Knicks last summer. “KAT was unbelievable. He was built for moments like that, and just took us home.” Brunson was in foul trouble for a lot of the second half, and had to watch as his team clawed back into the game and took the lead thanks to the efforts of their versatile big man.
Star watch: Pacers
How many games has Tyrese Haliburton won for the Pacers? How many more games will he win in miraculous fashion? He may not be the scorer that Jalen Brunson is, but that’s only because that’s not his main role on this team. He has proven that he can take over games and drop 30+ while leading his team to victory, but he would rather had 20 and 10 assists than have a big scoring game without getting everyone else involved. Last game he posted 20 and 7, but could have had a few more assists if the Pacers didn’t go 5/25 from downtown. Tonight, in the biggest game of the season the Pacers will rely on their orchestrator of the offense to have another big game, and maybe sprinkle in a few clutch moments.
Star watch: Knicks
Jalen Brunson didn’t have a great game on Sunday night. He scored 23 points but shot just 6/18 from the field and went 1/5 from downtown. The one thing he did do is get to the FT line and hit his FTs, especially down the stretch. Game 3 was a great sign for the Knicks who saw that they can beat this Pacers team even when Brunson isn’t locked in shooting from the start of the game. Tonight, neither he nor the Knicks can afford another slow shooting night, so lets look for him to try and get to the bucket early on to get going for the rest of this massive Game 4.
Last game recap
New York went into Indiana knowing it was win, or give up the dream of the NBA Finals. They avoided falling into a 3-0 hole and it was all because of their ability to come up with clutch buckets down the stretch. It wasn’t smooth sailing for all four quarters. In fact they were down by as many 20 in the second half, but as we have seen so many times, this Knicks team fights until the finish and they did that again on Sunday night. They went into the final quarter down 10, but Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson came through and saved the season for the Knicks. Indy went cold and NY took a lead with 8 minutes left in the game and held off the Pacers until the final buzzer thanks to KAT’s 24 points and 15 rebounds and Brunson’s 23 points.
We are live from Indy
Hello everyone and welcome to Indiana where the Pacers are back home looking to be the first home team to win in this series. It’s been a wild series so far, so expect the unexpected tonight from Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Indy got the first two games in New York and now it’s New York trying to get a second straight game in Indy to send the series back to the Big Apple all square. It was another tight game that went down to the wire, but the Knicks were able to hold off the Pacers on Sunday night and avoid digging themselves into a 3-0 hold. They have to show that same sense of urgency tonight, or the Pacers will have a foot and a half I the NBA Finals by the end of the night.
