Update:

Luka Doncic was once again the star of the show as Slovenia continued their EuroBasket 2025 resurgence, defeating Israel 106-96 for a third straight victory.

In 33 minutes on the court, the Los Angeles Lakers star recorded 37 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block, narrowly missing out on making what would have been an incredible piece of history.

Near history for Doncic

In Slovenia’s win over Belgium on August 31, Doncic became only the fifth player in EuroBasket history to post a triple-double, tallying 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists. Had the 26-year-old managed one more assist against Israel, he would have become the first player in the tournament’s history to open his own “double” triple-double club, just four days after joining the “original” triple-double club.

It wasn’t quite to be, but this latest performance confirms that Doncic 2.0 is reaping the rewards of his new fitness regime, which can only bode well for the Lakers ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Lakers go all in on Doncic in NBA

Doncic is expected to be handed the keys to the franchise, supported by veteran superstar LeBron James, as the Los Angeles team looks to win its first NBA championship since 2020.

Doncic and Slovenia’s EuroBasket hopes

Thanks to three successive wins, Slovenia has qualified for the EuroBasket 2025 Round of 16, where they will face the second-placed team in Group C, to be decided later on Thursday. Doncic and company could cross paths with Nikola Jokic’s Serbia in the quarterfinals and favorites France in the semifinals.
