Update:

LeBron James is on a mission to have his name etched into every major NBA record—most notably, the all-time points leader. He’s reached these heights thanks to his incredible longevity. Now in his 22nd season, that same endurance is putting him within striking distance of yet another historic milestone.

Right out of the gate in the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Dallas Mavericks game at the American Airlines Center, James became second all-time in regular-season games played. The Ohio native had been tied with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at 1,560 games apiece.

Next up? Surpassing Boston Celtics legend Robert Parish, who played 1,611 regular-season games over 21 seasons. Remarkably, the only time “The Chief” played fewer than 72 games in a season was his last—he logged 43 appearances in 1996–97 at age 43, as a member of the Chicago Bulls. To overtake him, LeBron needs to play 51 more games next season.

Chasing another milestone: most seasons played in NBA history

James’ durability is so impressive that he leads all active players in regular-season appearances by more than 200 games. The next closest is Chris Paul, who at 39 has logged 1,351 games and is unlikely to hit the 1,000 mark.

So far, LeBron has played 849 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, 294 with the Miami Heat, and 418 with the Lakers. Now, it’s just a waiting game to see those numbers rise even higher.

Once James steps onto the court in the 2025–26 season, he’ll claim yet another record: the most seasons played in NBA history. Currently, he’s tied with Vince Carter at 22 seasons.
