LeBron James has a player option written into his contract which will allow him to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers next season, but ultimately, that will depend on what decision his son Bronny makes about where he will be playing. The future of the league’s all-time top scorer is linked to the franchise that selects his son in the next NBA Draft - and there are only two teams that are willing to make that possible. The Lakers are the big favorites, followed by the Knicks and two of LeBron’s former teams: the Heat and Cavaliers.

Report on the future of LeBron James

The Lakers star’s main objective is to share the court with his son in the best basketball league in the world and he would be willing to earn less money in order to fulfill that dream. According to an ESPN report, Bronny has not yet decided if he will enter the NBA Draft in June or if he will return to USC to play a second year at collegiate level. This information is not disclosed. the teams that would be willing to sign both James next year and the draft order has not yet been announced.

Opinions divided about LeBron-Bronny alliance

But should Bronny end up entering the Draft, experts believe that he will be selected in the second round based on what he has shown so far with the University of Southern California. According to the report, if Bronny is selected by a team in the league, LeBron James would be willing to give up the $50 million salary he will receive from the Lakers to join him.

Bronny still has time to decide his future, but he has a lot to improve at collegiate level before making the leap according to several NBA scouts. The 19-year-old has 16 games with USC and could decide to stay one more year to continue progressing. Let’s not forget that Bronny started the season late after suffering a heart problem that required treatment.

Former NBA player Austin Rivers, who played under his father Doc when he was head coach of the Clippers, commented a few days ago that Bronny might not benefit by playing with his father in the NBA - in fact, it could harm his career. He argued that such a move would not help his growth and the best thing for his career would be to create his own legacy away from his superstar dad. “I hope it doesn’t happen. I don’t wan to to see Bronny play with his dad, I really don’t. I went through something similar - a very similar situation, but also different. I was already in the NBA when I went to go play [for his father, Doc]. What happens is people start to discredit everything that you’ve done. This kid has been in the limelight since he was born. first day on Instagram he had a million followers. He’s handled it so well, he’s played well at Sierra Canyon among talent and was able to get himself to a school like USC. Him going to play with his dad, at this point of his career, just because Bronny’s success isn’t in a top-tier level. Him getting drafted and playing with his dad, it just, I don’t want that negativity that come that way because he doesn’t deserve it,” he explained.
