LeBron James contract details with the 76ers: Salary and contract length in Philadelphia

LeBron James has confirmed that he will be moving to a fourth team of his NBA career, continuing his hunt for a historic fifth NBA championship with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The news was announced in a series of posts on X, in which James revealed that he had considered retiring at the end of the 2025/26 season.

“I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and deicide if I still love this game. I still truly love this game, and I have more to give,” he wrote.

The 76ers have not won a championship in 43 years and James will be hoping that he can break a long championship drought for the second time in his illustrious career. He was playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 when the team ended a 52-year wait for a championship.

The 41-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with the 76ers, taking him through a 24th and 25th season in the NBA. ESPN reports that his deal is a two-year deal worth $8 million, with a player option.

This is a considerable drop on his $52 million-a-year contract with the Lakers. James’ agent Rich Paul said that his client is prioritizing “basketball happiness” for the final years of his career, choosing to move to a team that is capable of challenging for titles.

“I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship,” James said.

“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time.”
