LeBron James makes his feelings clear about Christmas Day NFL games
The Lakers player spoke out after the victory over the Golden State Warriors as part of the NBA Christmas Day games.
Christmas Day 2024 was a historic day in the US sports calendar with fans able to enjoy the traditional NBA games along with two NFL games as part of a deal between the league and Netflix.
Five games were staged in the NBA featuring the league’s gig guns including NY Knicks, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks and a high-voltage Western Conference clash between Golden State Warriors and the LA Lakers with the side from the City of Angels edging out in a 115-113 win.
NBA games on 25 December are a lifelong tradition and at the end of the contest at the Chase Center, LeBron James sent a clear message highlighting the importance that the NBA has on this special date with a dig at the NFL scheduling.
NFL muscling-in
The NFL and Netflix opted to broadcast a football doubleheader with the Chiefs-Steelers and Ravens-Texans games, which included a special Beyonce performance at the half-time in Houston. However, for LeBron James, Christmas Day still belongs entirely to the NBA.
“I love the NFL, but Christmas is our day,” LeBron James responded in an interview after the Lakers beat the Warriors.
