Update:

The NBA offseason rumor mill went into overdrive this July 4 after LeBron James was pictured training at the training facility of the Cleveland Cavaliers, his former team.

Although James has opted into his $52..6 million player option for the 2025–26 season, the Lakers are said to be open to moving on from the 21-time All-Star, particularly with Luka Doncic now in the building.

That, then, made the timing of his visit to the Cavs “interesting,” shall we say, and led to NBA fans across the board putting two and two together…and getting five.

LeBron James explains Cavs visit

LeBron was snapped alongside Cleveland Summer League rookie Denver Jones at the Cavaliers’ training facility, but quickly moved to shoot down any suggestions he could be returning to play for his first team.

Responding to a caption reading “LeBron at the Cavs practice facility today,” James wrote: “And every summer since it was built. I live here still and train every summer. Got damn yall bored man! Go get a plate of food somewhere and enjoy the 4th of July!”

LeBron, of course, is an Ohio native, hailing from nearby Akron. So dropping in for a little bit of training doesn’t seem too out of the ordinary.

LeBron (almost) off-limits for Cleveland

Additionally, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, the Cavs would “have to give up four or five players to go get LeBron James for one year,” so the chances of a reunion appear incredibly slim for different reasons.

After being selected first by Cleveland in the 2003 draft, James spent 11 seasons with the Cavaliers in two spells, winning one of his four NBA titles, and two of his four MVP awards.
