Los Angeles Lakers 100 vs 127 Golden State Warriors summary: stats and highlights | NBA Playoffs Game 2
The Golden State Warriors came into Game 2 backed into a corner needing a win against the Lakers before heading to Los Angeles, and delivered in front of their home fans in blowout fashion. Klay Thompson exploded from downtown, scoring 30 points in the victory to tie up the series at 1-1.
Game 1 home losers almost always respond
History favored the Warriors coming into a Game 2 that 74% of home teams historically win after dropping the series opener. Thompson, Steph Curry and Golden State kept their calm with their backs against the wall and delivered a 27 point waxing of LeBron James and LA to support that statistic.
The Lakers came out and doubled Steph Curry from the start, which turned the sharp shooter into more of a conventional point guard that had to pass out of double teams and set up his teammates on the offensive end. No one reaped the benefits of that more than Klay Thompson who dropped 30 points on 8/11 shooting from long range.
AD shut down after huge opener
It was Klay and LeBron going back and forth for most of the first half. LA was up by seven thanks to the quick start from The King, but a 10-0 run in the second quarter gave the Warriors a lead they would continue to stretch until the end of the game.
LeBron had 21 in the first half but finished with 23 while Anthony Davis once again struggled with his bouts of inconsistency in Game 2. After putting up 30 points and 23 rebounds in the opener, he had just four points in the opening 24 minutes.

History on Warriors side
In the history of seven game playoff series in the NBA, home teams win 73% of the series openers. Unfortunately for Golden State fans, that’s not what happened on Tuesday night. The Warriors lost Game 1, which puts them in nearly a must win situation. They good news for the Boys from the Bay, is that history is on their side tonight. The home teams that lost Game 1 have won 74% of Game 2’s to tie up the series before hitting the road.
LeBron's defeensive duties
Over the years we have seen countless matchups between LeBron and Steph. In that span we have seen everything, for titles, MVP performances and history making moments. But there is one thing we had never seen before Game 1. LeBron drew Curry on a defensive assignment for a portion of the opener, and James was not taking his job lightly. He even took his duties off the court, when Curry was subbed out and The King wanted to make absolutely sure that Curry was plopped on the seat on the sideline and was no longer a threat.
Poole missed tying three last game

The King has entered the building
LeBron James is used to having to do everything for his team to win. He has shown that he is still more than capable of doing that, but the Lakers front office built a midseason monster in the trade deadline that has take the pressure off The King. LeBron spent some time guarding Steph Curry, but he will have plenty left in the tank to try to steal another game in LA.
Curry has the Warriors covered
It wasn’t too long ago that the Warriors were in a must win elimination game. Last week, the Warriors went to Sacramento and Steph Curry had one of the most heroic nights of his career. He put up 50 to down the Kings in Game 7, and while tonight may not be an elimination game, it’s going to be awfully hard to comeback on the Lakers down 0-2 going back to LA. Curry had 27 points last game, and got 25 from Klay Thompson but it wasn’t enough to take the opener. Will it take another heroic effort for Curry and the Dubs to take down the red hot Lakers.
Game.1 recap
The Lakers marched into the Bay and took a Game 1 win thanks to a huge performance from Anthony Davis. It was a tight game from start to finish and LA needed their big man for each and everyone of his 30 points and 23 rebounds. The largest lead of the first three and a half quarters was the eight point lead the Warriors jumped out to early in the first quarter, but both teams had their share of the lead as the game seesawed between each side. LeBron James had 22 in the game, which was his third lowest against the Warriors in the Playoffs, but D’Angelo Russell and Dennis Schroder had 19 a piece to hold off a late 12-0 run that almost won the Warriors the game. Jordan Poole had a chance to tie the game with a three ball with under 10 seconds, but missed it and the Lakers held on to take a 1-0 advantage.
We are live from the Bay
Hello everyone and welcome to Cali where the Lakers have a chance to take a substantial step towards next Western Conference Finals with a win tonight. The Lakers have looked like one of the best, if not the best teams in the West since their midseason roster makeover and their win over the Warriors in Game 1 only adds to that argument. The Warriors know just how dyer this situation is, considering their horrendous road record. They Game 7 win over the Suns was exhausting and that could have been a reason for the opening game loss, but whatever the case may be, tonight is a most win.
