The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off their best season in 20 years, and have an eye on a run to the NBA Finals. They are up 2-0 on the Phoenix Suns in their first round match up in the Western Conference playoffs and have won their first bit of hardware of the year.

Naz having a career year

Naz Reid was named the Sixth Man of the Year after a fantastic season in which he became a household name on a Timberwolves team that competed for the top spot in the Western Conference. The announcement came on the heels of Minnesota’s 105-93 win over the Suns in Game 2.

The 6′10 three point specialist is having the best season of his young career averaging 13.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists and he’s averaging a career best 41.4% from long range. He played 81 regular season game and had to fill in for Karl-Anthony Towns in the starting line up after Towns got hurt late in the season.

The Timberwolves are one of the dark horses in a Western Conference that might be one of the toughest we have ever seen. They finished just a game back of the OKC Thunder and the Denver Nuggets at the regular season and are two wins away from the Conference Semifinals after taking care of home court from Target Center.

In the Wolves two playoff games Reid has 8.5 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assists. His minutes have dropped a bit since Karl-Anthony’s return to the starting five following his meniscus injury.

Reid was one of three finalists for the award, topping Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis and Kings guard Malik Monk .
