NBA Cup 2024 quarterfinals: Dates and matchups of the knockout stage
The Knicks, the Magic and the Mavericks were among those to qualify for the knockout stage on Tuesday, but there was disappointment for the Celtics.
The group stage of the 2024 NBA Cup came to its conclusion on Tuesday (December 3), when five of the eight quarterfinalists were decided and, subsequently, the matchups in the first of the knockout rounds.
Which teams have qualified for the 2024 NBA Cup quarterfinals?
The Atlanta Hawks (East Group C), the Houston Rockets (West Group A) and the Golden State Warriors (West Group C) had already qualified before the final day of group-stage play. They were joined as group winners by the New York Knicks (East Group A), the Milwaukee Bucks (East Group B) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (West Group B), while the Orlando Magic and the Dallas Mavericks also sneaked through as the best ranked second-placed teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences respectively.
NBA champions the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers are among the highest profile casualties. Joe Mazzulla’s team were in the conversation for top-ranked second placed team in te Eastern Conference but missed out on points differential to the Magic. The Lakers’ 2-2 record was only good enough for them to finish third behind the Thunder and the Phoenix Suns in West Group B.
NBA quarterfinal matchups
The quarterfinal games are decided based on performance on the group stage, with the best-performing team taking on the team with the fourth best record, and second facing third. Teams from the two conferences are kept apart until the NBA Cup final on December 17.

2024 NBA Cup knockout round schedule
The semifinals are set for Saturday, December 14, with this year’s NBA Cup final to be played on Tuesday, December 17. The final two rounds of the tournament will be played at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
