NBA Cup final sets up enticing Gilgeous-Alexander vs Giannis clash
Tuesday’s 2024 NBA Cup final will see the Thunder face the Bucks at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The 2024 NBA Cup competition is down to just two teams ahead of the final game and next Tuesday we will discover if the OKC Thunder or Milwaukee Bucks succeed the Lakers in bagging the second title in the new competition’s short history.
Both semi-final games were staged in Vegas on Saturday night with the Thunder, once again reliant on the imperious Gilgeous-Alexander as the 26-year-old sprung into life, particularly in the second half scoring 20 points as part of a game-high 32 points after halftime. He shot 6-for-9 after opening 3-for-12, and his 14 points from the foul line matched or exceeded all but one Houston player.
Despite OKC delivering a sluggish start to the game, only managing 9 points in the opening nine minutes, the Canadian was ably assisted by Jalen Williams who contributed 20 points as part of the 111-96 win.
Bucks march on
In the other semi-final, Giannis Antetokounmpo bagged 30 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to the final with a 110-102 win over the Atlanta Hawks.
Damian Lillard was on hand to add a further 25 points for the Bucks as Young led the Hawks with 35 points and 10 assists on 9-of-18 shooting.
The Bucks outscored the Hawks 28-19 in a highly defensive fourth quarter to secure their trip to the final after losing an eight-point lead in the third. Giannis scored 10 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter to push the Bucks over the line and into the T-Mobile final on Tuesday.
