Update:

In a move that has caught the attention of NBA fans the world over, the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to bring Czech guard Vit Krejci to the Pacific Northwest from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for centre Duop Reath and two future second-round draft picks, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Krejci has been one of Atlanta’s most efficient shooters this season, and ranks among the league’s top marksmen. He is averaging around 9.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.

The 25-year-old has strong shot efficiently overall, with his field goal percentage around 46% and his three-point shooting among the league’s better marks at 42.3%, making him a consistent threat from deep.

Portland, for their part, are parting with Reath, a 29-year-old 6-foot-9, 245-pound big man from South Sudan who recently underwent season-ending foot surgery. In his career so far he has averaged 16.8 points and 7.0 rebounds on 45% shooting from the floor and 36% from three.

As well as Reath, the team are giving up their own 2027 second-round selection and a 2030 second-round pick acquired from the New York Knicks.

General manager Joe Cronin’s move to acquire Krejci signals Portland’s urgent need to address one of the most glaring weaknesses in their current rotation. The Blazers have been among the league’s poorest three-point shooting teams this season, a problem that has hampered their offensive rhythm late in games.

For the Hawks, the haul of picks and the addition of Reath, despite his injury status, provide flexibility and future assets as they refresh the way their roster feels looking towards the future.

From their perspective, this trade continues a trend of accumulating draft assets and creating roster space for future manoeuvrings. Along with the picks received in the Trae Young trade earlier this season, the Hawks now have an expanded set of second-round selections that could be used in further deals or to add young talent at next summer’s draft.
